Glee - A Mid Season Review

GLEE - SEASON 2: PART 1

OVERALL: C

Let me start this blog off by saying that I was a HUGE fan of Glee during Season One. I came into Season Two with high hopes. However, it seems as if those hopes were not quite met.

This season of Glee has been a bit of a let down. I'm not sure if it's because they got big heads or what the deal is, but either way, things are not nearly as good as they used to be.

Lack of Story: The biggest problem this season is the lack of story. During Season One, it was all about the story. Every week ended with an incredible cliffhanger. This season, I have yet to see a cliffhanger of any kind. It seems as if the story seems to have taken a backseat. Furthermore, a lot of the plot points Glee has introduced this season have been just stupid and silly. You can't take a show like Glee 100% seriously to begin with, but there's some things that just should not have been done. (Example: Sue marrying herself. Really? We couldn't think of something better?)

Meaningless Songs: The songs last season were all about meaning. The songs helped tell the story. This season, many of the songs that have been picked are songs people have never heard of. It's hard to relate when they seem like random songs that carry no meaning to the story.

Ill-Timed Songs: These past few episodes have been all about characters breaking out into random song (and dance) at the most pointless moments. The songs (as discussed above) used to have a lot meaning, but now, even when they could have meaning, they are ruined by poor placement within the show. It's alright to break out into song and dance now and again, but it should be with good reason.

The Kurt Show: Maybe it's just me, but it seems as if this ENTIRE season has been all about Kurt! Yes, he's a gay character, but that doesn't mean he's the only one with story. It seems as if every episode has some type of situation or hurdle that Kurt must overcome about being gay. I get it. Being gay in High School is hard. But they aren't the only ones who have it rough. Let's see some other people's stories, too! How about Rachel and Finn? Or Brittany and Santana?

With all these negatives out of the way, it should be mentioned that Glee HAS had some success this season, too. For starters, the 'Grilled Cheesus' episode was fantastic. It was deep, and full of meaning, story, and song. Also, it would be silly if I didn't mention Glee's outstanding version of 'Teenage Dream', which proved to be an instant classic. I think it's safe to say that EVERYONE is looking forward to seeing more from this new Glee group. Furthermore, some of the new cast members are exciting. I truly hope to see more from them in the weeks to come.

For now, I will continue to watch Glee...but not because they have fantastic cliffhangers that leave me wanting more (like last season). Mainly because I want to see the show rise back to the level it achieved last year. They set the bar high...now they have to keep it there.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1

HARRY POTTER #7 - PART 1

Once again, Harry Potter has done it again. Before I even give my two cents on the movie, let me first start by saying how hard it was for me to get tickets to SEE the film. I first tried to see this cinematic wonder on Saturday night, only to learn that EVERY SINGLE THEATER in Los Angeles had sold out for the entire night. The next morning, I was convinced I'd be able to find tickets to an early morning showing. Nope. Wrong again. To my surprise, all day Sunday (from 8:00 AM until 1:00 the next morning) was completely sold out at every theater in town. This movie is doing VERY well. I think it is one of the few that reaches out into every target audience imaginable.

That being said, this Harry Potter movie was just a bunch of fun. It wasn't my favorite out of the series thus far (#5 is going to be hard to beat in my eyes), but it lived up to the very high standards this series has already set. Watching the stunning visual effects and choreography is always a treat. It is truly a breath of fresh air to see something so incredible come to life on the silver screen.

It's hard to list negatives about a movie that is so well done. The score was solid. The acting was incredible, as always. The directing was top notch. There's very little that the new Harry Potter film fails to achieve. Perhaps the biggest kudos go out for making 2.5 hours FLY by like it was 10 minutes. I was glued to the screen the entire time.

This movie ends with the perfect cliffhanger that is bound to keep every fan of the series (which, is apparently everyone in Los Angeles and them some) on their feet eagerly waiting for more.

This is a good movie for anybody that is looking for something fun to check out and get a good laugh from. Although we all know that the story line is a little bit of a strech from reality, this movie makes up for the loss of realisim by adding a TON of star power. You'll be surprised at how many stars are in this movie!

Eagle Eye was a fun and enjoyable movie. I really enjoyed watching Shia LaBeouf in this movie, verus "Indiana Jones" where I really didn't enjoy watching him. I also liked the fact that the romance scenes in this movie were kept to a very low minimum...allowing for the action to really drive the movie.

The biggest downfall, however, was the story line. We have seen it and heard it a million times since "2001: A Space Oddessy". It's always neat to see things done with a little twist, but this plot was a little too predictable once the story behind 'Eagle Eye' was revealed.

Welcome!

Greetings! Welcome to Kyle's 2nd blog, home of "Kyle's Movie Reviews".

This movie review blog site has been created because lately, my friends have been asking for my opinions on different movies and TV shows. I decided I would share my thoughts on a new blog for all to see and read!

Each post on this blog will be a separate movie that I am reviewing. Some of them will be movies from the past...while others may be new releases.

Enjoy!
